making memories...

just an out-of-the-ordinary day for our little family. which turned out so fun, perhaps we'll make it a more regularly-occurring-occasion after all.

an early morning ferry ride across the bay...

having missed our first ferry due to traffic, we docked at the san francisco ferry building just after 10:30. lucy was thrilled to be in "THE CITY!!!!" where a few of her favorite books take place.
little girl, big city...
the ferry building is, of course, home to one of the most fabulous farmers markets in the bay area. the tuesday and thursday markets are only a fraction as large as the one that takes place on saturday, but no matter. we were surrounded by plenty of good stuff!

i was also delighted to see something i have never seen before in all my years of farmer's marketing--elementary school field trips to the market. there were at least 4 separate field trips going on, with children as young as kindergarten all the way up to sixth grade. these kids were amazing--running around the market sniffing and tasting different fruits and veggies, interviewing farmers and making purchases with their own money. amazing. i actually had tears in my eyes--how's that for sentimental?

we were on a bit of a time crunch not wanting to miss our return ferry, so we grabbed a quick lunch at gott's. gott's is formerly taylor's refresher--click link for a real flashback!!!

of course, no trip to the ferry building is complete without a stop at ciao bella for gelatto...

we grabbed a chocolate cone to share between the four of us and jammed back to the ferry terminal. boarded and were pleasantly surprised to see that we had the entire lower level to ourselves! luck of the draw? or maybe other patrons were scared of our chocolate-wielding children? you decide!

having our "own private ship" left plenty of room to explore & wreak general havoc...
a bag of farmers market grapes gave the perfect opportunity for a quick signing lesson...

and we were back in marin before we knew it. only a little stickier than when we left. an added bonus to busy outings is the silence that comes 2 & a half minutes into the car ride home, wouldn't you say?
