200th post!

well, well, well. guess who's having a celebration of sorts? that's right--me! 200 posts down in valley girl history. i'm proud. and what better way to commemorate this milestone than with the february giveaway?

this re-usable tote (elephant not included!) is handcrafted by your loyal blogger, and is loosely based on this pattern that i bought on etsy. it can be yours! to enter the drawing, simply leave a comment with your email address and elaborate a bit on this topic: despite all of my eco-efforts, the one thing that i can't give up/change (yet) is...

for me, it's looooooong hot showers where i do nothing but stand there with my eyes closed. though i am working on taking at least 3 shorter (5 min) showers each week.

the winner will be picked by random number generator on the morning of friday the 20th. good luck!

So Pretty! The one thing I'm having trouble with is going organic when it comes to produce, etc. I think it would be great to do but my husband (and the pocketbook) beg to differ!

I can't commit to buying local. I try to when I can. But I sure do love my bananas, and they certainly don't grow in Wisconsin.

i love my suv. it is a crossover and i know a hybrid or even some sedans would be better for the environment but i feel safer in the snow and i feel safer being able to see the rest of the traffic over the car ahead of me

Fast food. I know, it's so horrible. But I can't give up my chick-fil-a.

I have a thing for broccoli-n-cheese soup (in a can) and Amy's organic macaroni-n-cheese (in a box). I try to eat local, organic, whole foods...but these (yummy!) processed lunches still find their way to my stove.

I can't give up my Dior Show Mascara.

:(

I know it's full of bad chemicals, but it works wonders!

I too can't give up the long steamy hot showers. I used to be in for 20 minutes (so bad! I know)and now I try to set an alarm for the shower. When it goes off I know my 10 minutes is up. The summer is easier as it's not as cold to get out but still, I'm working on it. :)

I have a hard time finding (and then affording) eco-friendly clothing, shoes, and accessories. And off this topic, I am so glad I ran across your blog. Enjoy your weekend away!

I can't give up our SUV. We use it to tow our boat in the summer (another gas guzzler!), for traveling with our dogs, and for the harsh winters in Northeast PA (hello, four wheel-drive!). While technically it's my husbands, and he is the one who drives it to work every day, but it still makes me feel guilty. Yet, I don't think we'll ever be able to give it up (especially thinking of kids down the way).

On the other hand, we are looking to get a little standard that my husband can use for daily driving to work . . . but the SUV is staying.

Our commutes. I drive a Prius and carpool with two people from my work, but it's 60 miles a day. DH doesn't have a carpool buddy; his drive is more like 40 miles a day. He drives his Civic like a grandma, though, to get the best possible fuel economy.

I've been trying (half-heartedly) to find a job near his, but it's just not working out.

I'm inspired by your posts explaining the yucky stuff that is in a lot of our products and I've made changes in a lot of the ones we use in our house but I have not been able to let go of my hair products. I just don't want crazy, frizzy hair!

We haven't switched over to cloth diapers yet, and it makes me feel extremely guilty.

I've found I can't commit to all organic bedding/clothes for our baby (coming June 2009). I tried but the expense seems so huge and, honestly, DH & I don't wear organic clothes or sleep on organic bedding so we're torn about how organic to take things with our kid. (we're going organic/natural RE: body products & food)

I can't give up Taco Bell... I just love it! And I still haven't been able to completely give up paper towels, either -- although I've cut back quite a bit :)

Congrats on your 200th post! Unfortunately I can't commit to buying organic dairy or meat. Or options are so limited being in this small a town and it is SO expensive.

Cute tote. The one thing I don't think I'll be able to give up is meat at dinner. And it's not me, it's DH. He's a carnivore through and through. He would be SO sad if we cut it out of the menu even once a week!

wanting an SUV. With two big dogs and a baby on the way...it's going to become a reality soon. I just can't stand the idea of the dogs being on top of my infant!

I wish I could work from home and wouldn't have to commute 5 days a week - such a waste of money on gas besides!
the bag is adorable and I've loved reading your blog :)

It is hard for us to buy local and organic. We live in a rural area and while local is available in the summer, it is not in the winter. Plus it is expensive when I do see it and that is just not in the budget at this time.

LOVE LOVE LOVE! You are so talented. The one thing I cannot do is Mama Cloth... it just grosses me out. Granted, I haven't had my period in over a year and with my nursing maniac, probably won't get it anytime soon; so I am eco-friendly in spite of it! Perhaps one day I will be able to try it out, but for now, I just can't wrap my mind around it!

I'll go ahead and say it. Tampons. I can't give up tampons. I keep wanting to try mama cloth (still no desire to try a Diva cup). But, I just can't do it.

Anti-perspirant is my EF downfall. I don't want to be stinky and/or sweaty at work! There. Now you know!! Love the blog!!

What a beautiful bag!

I still use paper towels, though I keep meaning to make small reusable cloths from old t-shirts. And I have to admit to the hot shower obsession as well!

I am also a victim of the paper towel addiction. I am so nervous to break the habit.
My mother in law bought us some Sham Wow for Christmas...I'm thinking I should cut them up to use and give it a whirl.
Anyone have any experience with the Sham Wow? Will they help me break my shameful paper towel addiction?
